Later, on January 19, 2019, the black-haired student released a statement stating that the students were confronted by 4 members of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement.
He also said that Phillips tried to provoke them. They never sang “build the wall” or used any racist language or gestures according to him. However, Phillips told that he heard them saying “Build that wall! Build that wall!”.
