Carolyn Bryant Donham (born in 1934) is an American Citizen and Store Owner from Indianola, Mississippi. She is the white woman who is infamous for her role in the murder of Emmet Till. In 1955, Till (14-year-old) was kidnapped, tortured, and murder by Carolyn’s ex-husband “Roy Bryant” and J. W. Milam (Roy’s half-brother). Furthermore, this incident spread protests and also influenced the African-American Civil Rights Movement (1954–68).

Emmet Till Death Story.

Moreover, Donham and Roy ran a small Bryant’s Grocery & Meat Market in Money, Mississippi. On August 24, 1955, a 14-year-old black boy Till from Chicago skipped his morning church and went to Bryant’s grocery store.

Later on August 28, 1955, Emmet was kidnapped and killed. Carolyn on her trial said that the boy grabbed her, flirted with her, and also threatened her. Later she added, he had come to buy bubble gums and while paying the money Till said: “How about a date, baby?”.

In fact, her ex-husband Roy when heard this story he decided to take revenge. Therefore, he planned to kill the young boy with his step-brother. Emmet was sleeping in his relative’s place at 2:30 am on August 28 when Roy kidnapped him. Neither man was ever convicted of a crime or spent time in jail.

On January 26, 2017, it was revealed that Carolyn Donham had admitted that it was not true what she said on her trial. Moreover, she also confirmed that she had fabricated most parts of the story. The 82-year-old woman made the admission in the book “The Blood of Emmett Till” by author Timothy Tyson in 2007.

 

The Bryant’s Grocery store owner was born in 1934 in Indianola, Mississippi, USA. Therefore, Carolyn Bryant Donham’s age is Eighty-two (82) years old, as of 2018. Her father worked as a plantation manager and Carolyn’s mother was a nurse.

Furthermore, she is a high school dropout. The white woman also won the local beauty pageant twice. She belongs to Caucasian-White and Irish Ethnicity.

At a very young age, she married her husbandRoy Bryant. He was an ex-soldier. The couple ran a local small grocery store. Their main customer base was black sharecroppers and their children. Moreover, the couple also shares two sons (name not available) together.
