In 1996, she started her very first job as a teaching fellow at Yale-China Association/Sun Yat-Sen University and served there for two years. After completing her JD degree in 2001, she launched her career as an attorney.

In the following years, Katherine served as Law Clerk at U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland (2002-2003) and U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (2003-2004). Due to her hard work, she became a senior associate at Miller and Chevalier Chartered from 2004 to 2006.

She started working as an Associate General Counsel at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in 2007. Later, in 2011, she was appointed as a Chief Counsel for China Enforcement.
